2016 Hui Wa'a Kaukahi Calendar of Events

Jan to April 2016

Unless stated otherwise, all groups should be assembled at the start point by 0900, and launched by 0915 at the latest. Depending on the length of the ride, car poolers should have their boats set up and ready to leave the launch area a half-hour to a full hour before the launch time - call the Trip Leader to find out.
The Trip Leader has final say as to whether any individual paddler may join the group, based on the Leader's assessment of that individual's skill, equipment and/or preparation, in light of the ocean conditions of the day.
See bottom of calendar for explanation of tides and map references. Click on rating icon for explanation & details.

Tues 19

Meeting - Location: Paki Hale, 3840 Paki Ave, Honolulu (map available here Map to Paki Hale), 7:00 PM - Presentation: In 1987, kayaker, preservationist and indy filmmaker Bob Liljestrand turned Audrey Sutherland's first book "Paddling My Own Canoe" into a documentary film called "Molokai Solo", and thanks to Bob and the great efforts of our entertainment director Cosette Harms, we have a rare opportunity to see this film, shot along the breathtaking coastline of North Molokai.

For a review of the film, and a brief bio on Audrey, read The Surf Museum Link article.

The film runs a little over an hour, so the meeting will begin promptly at 7:00 PM, with a shortened discussion of business. There will be an opportunity after the meeting for Q&A with Bob, who is also the curator of the Liljestrand House on Tantalus, and kind of an expert on Vlad Ossipov's architecture.
