2023 Hui Wa'a Kaukahi Calendar of Events

May to August 2023

(updated 8/25/2023)

GREEN is the next scheduled paddle, BLUE is the next Club meeting, YELLOW is a Special Event, GRAY is history
THIS COLOR denotes a Saturday or other weekday paddle

All County meeting halls and auditoriums are now open to the public again, so all our monthly Club meetings will be held at Kaimuki Regional Library. Steerage Meetings will be held in the same place, on the second Tuesday of every second month.

Stay healthy.

Unless stated otherwise, all groups should be assembled at the start point by 0900, and launched by 0915 at the latest.
The Trip Leader has final say as to whether any individual paddler may join the group, based on the Leader's assessment of that individual's skill, equipment and/or preparation, in light of the ocean conditions of the day.
See bottom of calendar for explanation of map references. Click on rating icon for explanation & details of ratings.

Summer Solstice Paddle: Tracks to Ko Olina and Back. Paddle from Tracks Beach Park to the Ko Olina lagoons and back. Snorkeling stops at the Kahe power plant outflow and the Ko Olina reefs. The challenge for this paddle won't be on the water it will be crawling through the infamous westbound afternoon traffic. Recommend getting to Tracks before 3:00 PM to beat the rush hours (plural intended). Launch at 3:30 PM, or when enough paddlers arrive. If you get stuck in traffic, no worries, you can just meet up with us on the water. Post-paddle BBQ picnic dinner with a 7:17 PM sunset view. Bring something to throw on the grill! Option to paddle back out to view the sunset on the water. - 4 mi. R.T. Terry Shimabukuro (619) 777-8518

Makaha Play Day Meet & Greet - We're looking for new members! Join us for a short roundtrip paddle from Makaha. After launching, we'll make a quick snorkeling stop to search for the honu cleaning station before paddling along the coast with the direction determined by the conditions that day. Not interested in the EZ-Glider paddle? Fishermen are welcome to launch early to do their own thing. Surfers can bring their favorite surf gear and join the lineup. Non-kayaking family and friends are welcome to hang out with us and just enjoy a day at the beach. After a morning of water play we'll enjoy a BBQ lunch where you can meet club members and learn about our other events. Bring your lunch with something to throw on the grill. Meet by the hau trees near the lifeguard station (#47A) in the middle of the beach at 8:30 for a 9:00 launch. Contact the paddle leader by Saturday, July 15 to register for this event. [115/F3]

Ewa Beach to 'Tracks' (Kahe) around Barbers' Point -
A beautiful paddle along a seldom-seen stretch of coastline. There is a possibility the paddle will be shortened if the wind does not cooperate.
Because the carpool is critical and the weather may be cause for some course modification, Steve asks that you call or email him before noon on Saturday if you are planning to join him. If no one confirms by then, the paddle will be cancelled. - 13 mi.

Paddle ratings are for average weather and ocean conditions, and are unscientifically assigned and often arbitrary. It is up to each individual to assess the conditions prior to the time of launch in the light of their own experience and ability, and decide whether to go or not. If you decide to go, you must sign the trip roster and read the waiver. No signee, no kayakee. In the event of a Small Craft Advisory (SCA) or higher wind warning*, the Club-sponsored paddle is officially cancelled. Trip leaders should download a copy of the release/waiver by clicking here for a PDF file you can print.
