41-023 Pu'uone St, Waimanalo

5:30 pm - 10:00 pm

The Hawaii Trail & Mountain Club (HTMC) has once again allowed us to use their great Clubhouse in Waimanalo for our Christmas Party. We will need some people to come early (about 5:00 PM) to help set up tables, chairs and such. There should be no shortage of parking on the Clubhouse grounds or on the street right outside the gate - there is a map and driving directions here. map

Bring a side dish to share in the Potluck - there is usually a turkey and/or ham available as a main dish. Bring your own drinks: alcohol is allowed, there will be spare coolers with ice, and a cooler of ice water. Thee is a kitchen with stove, oven and refrigerator.

While you are eating and schmoozing, peruse the photos displayed along the wall, and vote (up to 3 times) for the photo(s) you like the best. There is a slight twist to the contest this year:

This year's Photo Contest invites entries of photos taken on kayak paddles over the last 30 years, in celebration of the Hui Wa'a Kaukahi's 30th Anniversary. No more than three entries per member.

Photos entered can be:

Prizes to be awarded: both Popular and Professional Choice Awards. Please try to keep sizes to no more than 8" x 10" or 8" x 12." Questions: contact Chalsa Loo.

There is also an excellent article on how to take and present winning photos here, by Doug Peebles and Chalsa Loo.

Once everyone has taken the edge off their appetite, there will be a quick Club meeting to mention upcoming paddles, then Norm Chun will commence to award prizes for the various categories of fishing endeavors, culminating with the presentation of the Big Black Fish (Perpetual Fishing Contest Award) to the Kayak Fisherman of the Year. This will be followed by Chalsa Loo presenting the awards for the Photo Contest winners.

Then, the event you have all been waiting for: the Grab-bag Christmas Present Frenzy! Bring a $5-10 gift, wrapped, to put in a pile under the tree. Gifts will be distributed at random, and for 10 mins, you are allowed to approach anyone, bellow "Merry Christmas" and swap presents with them. When the whistle blows for the end of the frenzy, open the presents and show everyone what you got. There will also be some "ringers" - presents with money inside!

Then, Auld Lang Syne! Our being invited back depends on our restoring the house to the condition in which we found it, so we ask that that folks stay behind to help with vacuuming and wiping and straightening up.

Merry Christmas!
