Officers duties, excerpted from the Hui Wa’a Kaukahi Bylaws -

Section 6.3. Chairperson of the Board.
The Chairperson of the Board shall preside at all meetings of the Board and shall perform such other duties as are incident to the office or as may be required by the Board. The Chairperson shall be chosen from the current Board and shall be elected by the majority vote of the Board present at any Board meeting. In the event the Chairperson of the Board is not elected or is unavailable, the President shall preside at all meetings of the Board.

Section 6.4. Reserved.

Section 6.5. President.
The President shall have general charge and supervision of the Corporation, and shall have the authority to make all decisions concerning the day to day activities of the Corporation and the conduct of its business in order to implement policy set by the Board.

The President shall be the Chief Executive Officer of the Corporation and, perform such other duties as are incident to the office or are required by the Board. The president shall have the authority to act on all transactions up to $200.00.

Section 6.6. Vice President.
In the absence or disability or refusal to act by the President, the Vice President shall perform all of the duties of the President, and when so acting shall have all the powers of and be subject to all the restrictions upon, the President. The Vice President shall have powers and perform such other duties as from time to time may be prescribed by the President, the Board, or the Bylaws.

Section 6.7. Treasurer.
The Treasurer shall be the chief financial officer of the Corporation and exercise general supervision over the receipt, custody and disbursement of corporate funds. The Treasurer shall perform all other duties assigned by the President or the Board.

Section 6.8. Secretary.
The Secretary shall keep the minutes of all meetings of the Board.  The Secretary shall keep or cause to be kept a register showing the names of the Directors and the officers and their addresses. The Secretary shall give notice in conformity with the Bylaws of all meetings of the Board. The Secretary shall also perform all other duties assigned by the President or the Board. The Board may also elect Assistant Secretary or  assistant Secretaries to perform such functions as may be assigned by the Board, the President or the Secretary.

Section 6.9. Other Officers.
The President or Board shall have the authority to appoint additional officers as needed and perform all duties assigned by the President or the Board.

 

      (In the past, the president has also performed the following duties, although they are not spelled out as his or her official responsibility:

  1. Run the monthly General Meetings of the Club. Provide audio visual equipment for presentations as necessary.
  2. Oversee the Club's paddling schedule. Answer inquiries about the paddles and encourage and assist new leaders in leading the paddles.
  3. Oversee our annual Easter Camp. Insure that permits are obtained for the camp and that there are adequate members to run the various activities of the camp. Help to purchase prizes. Oversee the Easter Egg Hunt and program that follows.
  4. Oversee our annual Christmas Party. Insure that there are prizes for the various contests competing at the party.  Recognize members’ contributions over the past years as necessary
  5. Encourage old and new members to get active in club activities. Answer inquiries about the club and its activities.
  6. Create new contests to encourage new activities in the club.
  7. Maintain relations with the ACA. Review and sign our Paddle Club agreements. Review and circulate current ACA guidelines and rules to club members.
  8. Draft a president's message in our newsletter.
  9. Review and draft safety guidelines for club paddles.
  10. Plan and facilitate annual leaders’ camp.
  11. Run kayaking classes.
  12. Testify and draft testimony and petitions regarding proposed legislation affecting kayaking in Hawaii.

These additional duties were originally enumerated by then-President Joe Hu, and have since been assumed to be the purview of the office.)
