SUMMARY:Christmas Party 2025
DESCRIPTION:This event is for club members and their guests only. \n\n\n\nWe’ll celebrate the holidays at the Hawaii Trail & Mountain Club clubhouse with our usual festivities: Potluck dinner\, Gift Exchange Melee\, Photo\, Video and Video Clip Contest and caroling. The party will be held mainly in the pavilion in the yard\, but there will be access to the main room upstairs in case of rain or snow. \n\n\n\nPupus and mingling starts at 4:30 pm. Potluck at 5:30 pm. \n\n\n\nWe’re going back to our traditional Gift Exchange Melee. We encourage recycling a gently used item for the gift. If you’re buying something new get something around a $20 value. Wrap the gift and bring it for a spirited grab bag exchange. \n\n\n\nIf you want to enter the photo or video contest here are the rules. The rules have changed this year so make sure you read them. You do not have to be present to win\, but a printed photo must be submitted. Photos and videos must have been taken after and including last year’s Christmas party. \n\n\n\nVoting will take place at the party\, but you can preview the videos before the party here. \n\n\n\nEveryone should bring a dish to share and your own drinks. Vegan dishes are welcome. Please put your name on your dishes and utensils. Be prepared to bring leftovers of your dish home. If you have potluck questions contact Eileen. \n\n\n\nSing-a-long Christmas Carols \n\n\n\nIf you want to get your vocal chords warmed up here are the carols we’ll be singing. We’ll also be doing an audience participation Hawaiian Twelve Days of Christmas hula. \n\n\n\nThe party is a great time to renew your club membership. We’re also having a sale on our old club t-shirts\, $10 each! \n\n\n\nEvent Coordinators:\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLocation:\n\n\n\nPark on the lawn in front of the house or along Puuone St. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n	\n	Look Who's Coming!William MurphyRoya JueTerry ShimabukuroBeth Cheng-LeeverAmy FujimotoHilary EllisSandy JohnsonNadine Owenstan dalbeckelvin tom\n	Attendance: 10 / 20\n	\n \n\n \n \n Registrations are closed for this event

SUMMARY:Weed Out the Wimps
DESCRIPTION:One of the most challenging paddles on O‘ahu from the Makai Research Pier to Maunalua Bay. You’ll pass many scenic spots: the Makapu‘u Lighthouse\, the rugged Kaiwi Coast\, Sandy Beach\, Koko Crater\, the Halona Blowhole\, Hanauma Bay and China Walls\, but you may be too busy watching for big trade swells to appreciate the scenery. This is a LONG paddle and the only emergency bail-out is at Kapaliokamoa (Two Beer Beach) or maybe Koloko Cove. Not for the timid\, but there might be whales! SUMMARY:Easter Meet & Greet
DESCRIPTION:We have a full day of kayaking activities for prospective members and their families. The activities begin at 8:00 am with an “Introduction to Kayaking” clinic that will teach paddling strokes\, proper PFD fitting\, basic safety and on-the-water capsize recovery. Bring your camp chair if you want to sit comfortably for the lecture portion of the clinic. \n\n\n\nAt 11:30 we’ll have our traditional kayak Easter egg hunt on the bay. Bring your kids (or borrow some) and create a memory they’ll never forget! If you bring kids make sure that each one has a properly sized PFD. (Walmart carries affordable children’s PFDs.) \n\n\n\nAfter the eggs are gathered we’ll enjoy a sumptuous potluck lunch. Bring a dish to share and your camp chair. The club is providing a sheet cake for the potluck so we don’t need many other desserts. We’ll have a jug of ice water\, but if you want anything else to drink bring it yourself. As we digest our feast we’ll give out egg hunt prizes. \n\n\n\nPlease leave the family pets at home as animals are not allowed in the park (registered service animals excepted). \n\n\n\nA limited number of loaner kayaks are available for this event. Please read and agree to our loaner kayak etiquette before asking to borrow a kayak. Contact the event organizer by Thursday\, 3/26\, if you want to borrow one. \n\n\n\nEvent Organizer:\n\n\n\n\n\nLaunch Location:\n\n\n\nDrive down the park road and take the right fork at the roundabout before the last parking lot. SUMMARY:Mokuleʻia to Kaʻena and Back
DESCRIPTION:Vice-President Stan Dalbec has long envisioned completing a round trip paddle from Mokulēʻia to Kaʻena Point. We did it in 2025\, but itʻs rare for the wind and surf conditions to line up to make this feasible. Join us on this paddle to Ka’ena Point without the arduous carpool. SUMMARY:Makai Range Pier to Kailua Boat Ramp
DESCRIPTION:A nice cruise across Waimanalo Bay and Lanikai Beach with a stop at Moku Nui. This is a great paddle for beginners to stretch out your paddling distance as it’s all inside the reef and you can stay comfortably close to shore the whole way. No surf launching and landing too. Bring a lunch or snack to enjoy on Moku Nui (the larger of the Mokulua islets). We’ll take a break there to explore the islet or just rest on the beach. Meet at the Makai Range Pier at 8:30 AM. Carpool at 9:00 AM. – 7 mi. \n\n\n\nPaddle Leader:\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLaunch Location:\n\n\n\nPark in the dirt lot to the left of the pier. You will have to carry your kayak down a short slope to the beach. \n\n\n\n\n\nLanding Location:\n\n\n\nKailua Boat Ramp. Launch or land on the Lanikai side of the boat ramp. SUMMARY:Surf Crash & Burn Clinic
DESCRIPTION:Launching and returning a kayak through surf is one of the most intimidating parts of coastal paddling. Waves\, timing\, and shallow water can quickly turn a routine paddle into a “Crash & Burn” capsize if approached incorrectly. With the right preparation and technique\, however\, surf zones can be managed safely and confidently. \n\n\n\nThe surf zone is where most kayaking “Crash & Burn” mishaps occur – not because paddlers lack strength\, but because they lack timing and technique. Learning how to launch and return a kayak through waves is essential for anyone paddling coastal waters. This clinic breaks down the process into simple\, practical steps to help you approach surf with confidence and control. \n\n\n\nLaunching and returning through surf is a skill that improves with practice\, patience\, and respect for the ocean. Start small\, focus on timing and control\, and gradually build experience in stronger conditions. \n\n\n\nMeet at Hūnānaniho Beach Park (Sherwood Forest\, across from the polo field) at 9:00 am. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPaddle Leaders:\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLaunch Location:\n\n\n\nAlso known as Sherwood Forest. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n	\n	Look Who's Coming!William MurphyRoya JueTerry ShimabukuroBeth Cheng-LeeverAmy FujimotoHilary EllisSandy JohnsonNadine Owenstan dalbeckelvin tom\n	Attendance: 10 / 20\n	\n \n\n \n \n Registrations are closed for this event
