Loaner Kayak Etiquette

Kayaks on the beach

We occasionally provide kayaks on loan for our paddles. If you borrow one remember that we are not a commercial kayak outfitter, we are an ocean kayaking social club. Please keep these things in mind:

  • The kayak that you are borrowing is the personal property of one of our club members. They loaded and hauled it to and from the launch site so that you would not have to rent and haul one yourself.
  • Please be on time or even a little early so that you can help unload the kayak and gear and carry them to the beach.
  • After the paddle, if a hose or shower are available, rinse off the gear and kayak. Help load the kayak onto the owner’s vehicle.
  • If you have your own personal flotation device (PFD) please bring it as it should fit better than a loaner.
  • Bring your own sun protection and water bottle with a tether to bring on the paddle.
  • Tips are not expected and will probably be refused. Small gifts are not expected either, but may be happily accepted.
  • If something comes up and you cannot make it to the paddle please let the paddle leader know as early as you can so that your loaner’s owner does not haul it to the event unnecessarily.
