Magic Island Meet & Greet

We’re a go!
The water around the canoe ramp and in the Ala Wai channel is a little dirtier than normal, but is OK to launch in and quickly paddle through. A couple of the streams that empty into the Ala Wai canal did have sewage overflows earlier in the week, but there are no state issued water quality alerts where we’ll be paddling. If you have concerns about the water quality you need to use your own judgement on whether or not it’s safe for you. This paddle will proceed as planned.
At our first Meet & Greet event of the year we welcome prospective members to join us on an EZ Glider paddle followed by a potluck picnic where you can talk to our members and learn about the club and our activities.
On this paddle you can experience Waikiki like a tourist as we go from Magic Island to Waikiki and back. We’ll launch from the Magic Island canoe ramp, go out the channel and then paddle inside the reef to get an up close look at hotels and sun worshipers. If you know how to re-enter your kayak in the water you can try surfing a small wave or take a quick snorkel at one of the reefs. We’ll turnaround near Kuhio Beach and head back to Magic Island.
After the paddle stay for a potluck lunch. Non-paddling family and friends are welcome to join us at the potluck. Lunch will be between Picnic Sites #6 and #7 just Ewa of the canoe hale. Look for the club banner. Bring a potluck dish to share, your drinks and camp chairs.
Paddlers should meet at the ramp in front of the canoe hale at 8:30 for a 9:00 launch. – 3 to 4 mi.
