Grab a free parking spot along the beach frontage road or by the Nanatorium if you’re lucky. Otherwise, unload your kayak and then find a spot on Kalakaua Ave.

Paddle Leader Eileen Helmstetter

This event is for experienced club members only.

The Waikiki Roughwater Swim Committee is requesting kayak volunteer help with escorting swimmers in the  2025 41st Annual Hawaiian Looong Distance Invitational Rough-H2O Swim. You will be matched up with a swimmer (usually several days in advance so you can contact them and arrange meeting on race day before the race). Escorts stay with swimmer until they complete the course.

Course: Kaimana Beach start, Outrigger Canoe Club channel out to a turn buoy then “straight” down, across Waikiki to the outer Ala Wai Harbor channel buoy (turn) and back across Waikiki to first buoy, turn in the Outrigger Canoe channel and back in to Kaimana Beach. 7 km (4.33 mi)

Kayakers will meet their swimmer and check-in together at Kaimana Beach between 6:30-7:30 am. Swimmers start the race at Kaimana Beach at 8:00.

Paddlers will receive a race shirt, brunch, and award (if their swimmer receives one).

Brunch will be provided at noon at the Outrigger Canoe Club.

Be prepared! Bring your radio and life vest. If we have more escorts than swimmers who need one, the race committee has requested a couple extra kayaks on the course for safety. Those paddlers will also receive a shirt and brunch.

Email Eileen by Wednesday, September 17 if you want to volunteer.
