Join the fun, come race with the crew as we race down from Hawaii Kai to Wai‘alae Beach using any wind catchment system. Paddling is allowed and there will be a fabulous pot luck and coveted finisher’s prizes for various categories and one person will be crowned “Windbag of the Year”!
The first half of this paddle is not the most scenic, but once you pass the Kalaeloa Harbor entrance you cruise by the plush Ko Olina Resort. The reef in front of Ko Olina and the Kahe Power Plant cooling water discharge pipe are great snorkeling spots.
A return to an old stomping ground! Meet at the He’eia Kea Small Boat Harbor’s canoe hale at 9:00 AM. Bring lunch and snorkel gear, if so inclined. The route goes across part of the Sandbar (Ahu O Laka) and may get shallow at spots so bring reefwalkers or tennies/tabies for crossing shallow spots and the rocky landing on the island.
Club members volunteer as safety monitors for the 2.4 mile Waikiki Roughwater Swim. Members will be positioned along the race route to direct or assist swimmers. This event is for club members only.
ACA-certified instruction of basic ocean kayaking skills. Free for all club members, $10 donation for non-members.
An EZ Glider round-trip paddle from the Makai Range Pier to Makapu‘u going around Mānana (Rabbit) Island if conditions allow.
The HWK Papio Fishing Tournament returns where the goal is to catch a big, but not too big fish. We reserved the small group campsite at Kualoa Regional Park for two days of kayak fishing. Don’t want to fish? That’s OK, club members are welcome to pitch their tents next to the fishermen for the weekend.
While the fishermen try to reel in a big papio, non-fishing club members can take an EZ Glider roundtrip cruise to visit Turtletown in the patch reefs of Kaneohe Bay. A high concentration of honu inhabit these reefs and we hope to snorkel respectfully with them.
The Waikiki Roughwater Swim Committee is requesting kayak volunteer help with escorting swimmers in the 2026 42nd Annual Hawaiian Looong Distance Invitational Rough-H2O Swim.
This is a round trip paddle along the rugged leeward coast from Mākua Beach to Kaʻena Point and back. Probably too early for a humpback whale encounter, but maybe an early arrival will show up.
